Blood Root

Sanguinaria canadensis

Native American tribes used dried blood root to make a dye for cloth, leather and other goods. In Appalachia, the herb is a coloring agent used by traditional basket weavers.

Internal use is not recommended due to the presence of benzophenanthride alkaloids in the root.
